As salaamu alaykum Wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakatahu:
We’ve all likely seen the commercial with the two elderly ladies and one saying to the other, “That’s not how this works! That’s not how any of this works!” And I am saying that regarding the issue of hijab and Muslimah athletes competing in the Olympics.
Is it nice to know that hey, some of my sisters have physical talents in sports? Yes I can see the brief excitement, but it is short lived. Simply covering your hair, doesn’t make you a “practicing Muslim”. Wearing a longer shirt doesn’t either. Nor does growing a beard or having pants above the ankles make a man a Muslim.
I was online and came across this news post: Athletic Hijab’s for Women https://www.yahoo.com/news/athletic-hijabs-women-092323156.html
That’s not a hijab! That’s just a piece of cloth on your head! Hijab is about modesty and not putting yourself on display… Yet that’s exactly what the Muslimah Olympians are doing.
Allaah says: “And stay in your houses and do not display yourselves like that of the times of ignorance.’ (33:33).The hijab must not be a display…”
The hijab itself must not be a display. Allāh ordained it so as to cover the beauty of women and not for showing off. Allāh (subhānahu wa taʿāla) says `And not show of their adornment except only that which is apparent.’ (24:31)
So tell me, after reading and knowing ALL of the conditions that MUST be met,(https://www.troid.ca/women/hijab/154-the-obligatory-conditions-for-an-islamic-hijab) why are we still acting like this is a good thing?!
My sisters have left their homes and families, some traveling without a Mahram, putting their awrah on display, imitating the Kuffar, for what?! A shiny piece of metal? Tell me, will you ransom it on the Day of Reckoning when you are questioned about that which you use to do? Authoobillah! Fear Allaah and stop allowing yourselves to be tricked by Shaytaan. Allaah azza wa jal said in HIs Noble Book: No! When the earth has been leveled – pounded and crushed – And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell – that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? He will say, “Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life.” So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. [To the righteous it will be said], “O reassured soul, Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], And enter among My [righteous] servants And enter My Paradise.” (89:21-30)
Some of the people speak ill of Saudi Arabia, yet you will notice Saudi did not send forth any female athletes…why?! Not because there isn’t the talent! Laa! I’m sure there is plenty of talent! Yet Saudi Arabia cares enough about it’s women, not to put them on display like goods at a white sale at JCPenny’s. They are protecting the sisters and upholding Shariah. And yes, I said Shariah! If there are athletes in Saudi Arabia that don’t like it, by all means: MOVE! No one is holding you hostage.
Anything correct I have said is from Allaah alone and He alone is worthy of all praise and worship.
Anything incorrect is from myself and the whispers of Shaytaan.
asalaam aleykum sista in islam. i totally agree with what you have said.i just say the thing with nike pro hijab and i said this is not a hijab. it’s just some skin tights and a cover for the hair. if i walked in the street wearing this, would i say that am wearing hijab? no! because it shows the curves! nothing is hidden. just covering the hair doesn’t count for hijab…. they will try to pull us to them by offering ‘muslima’ friendly clothes, sport hijabs, and abayas with pretty designs, yet all this contradicts the hijab as it should be. wallahi only Allah can guide us. we muslims so much want to ‘integrate’ with the world and we have forgotten the akhirah! may Allah have mercy on us. and forgive us our sins Allah guide us all. amin
