#4 on the Big Board
Grade: Top 5 pick
Strengths: Mudiay is young, with great size, good length, and great athleticism for a PG. He’s quick and twitchy, handles the ball very well with both hands, excels in transition, showing the ability to find open men diving to the the rim or spot up shooters for three’s. In pick and roll situations, he can turn the corner, finish at the rim, find the big diving to the cup, or find open shooters. He has good lift, a strong body, and shows the ability to finish through contact at the rim. He is a very good rebounder for a PG, which allows him to get the ball and start the fast break instantly. Flashes some ability to shoot the ball with range. When focused and locked in, he’s a very good defender. With his size, length, strength and quickness, he has the potential to be an all league defender.
Weaknesses: Mudiay must learn to play with better pace and make better decisions with the ball, which I believe will come as he gets older, matures and learns the game. He is fast, very fast, and most young guys have to learn to change speeds, when to push the ball and when not to. He is a very good passer, loves to make the flashy play, but also will turn the ball over. He has to learn not to force things and how to make the simple play. His jump shot isn’t broke, but needs work. Teams are going to play off of him, consistently go under screens until he becomes a better shooter. He must become a better shooter from the free throw line as well. 57% for a PG is unacceptable.
