Grade: Top 20-30 Pick
Strengths: Jones is a very smart basketball player, poised beyond his years, and he’s a big game basketball player. His passing ability is on full display whether it’s on the break, in half court sets, and P+R situations. Defenders have to remain honest because of his ability to hit spot up three point shots. He plays with good pace, and knows how to get the ball to the right teammate at the right time and right spot. He doesn’t have star potential, but he could be a solid starter or good role player off of the bench. Takes good care of the basketball, his assist to turnover ratio was close to 3 to 1.
Weaknesses: Jones lacks great size, length and athleticism. He has issues finishing through contact and over length at the rim. He was one of the worst on ball defenders I watched live or on tape this year. He really was over-matched by bigger and more athletic guards at times. He needs time to develop physically, he’s not ready to compete in the NBA at this time. He isn’t a guy who has the speed to blow by defenders, getting dribble penetration consistently.
