Strengths: Oubre is young, with the prototype height, length, and athleticism of an NBA wing. His 7’2 wingspan at just 6’7 is amazing. Oubre excels at filling the lanes on the break and finishing above the rim. He rebounds well for a wing player, he averaged 5 rebounds a game in just 21 mpg. He has the physical tools to be an elite level wing defender at the NBA level: quick feet, agility, length, and active hands. He’ll be able to defend positions 1-3. He has good form on his jump shot, was at his best in catch and shoot situations from the college three point line. Young with upside, could develop into a high level role player. Reminds me of Trevor Ariza when he was coming out of UCLA.
Weaknesses: Oubre is very raw, has to get stronger, and work on his overall game, especially offensively. He doesn’t handle the ball very well, can’t create offense for himself or others, and doesn’t pass the ball well. He really needs to learn how to play the game with his head. He’s a kid who would benefit from time in the D-League and playing for a playoff team, with experienced vets to teach him the game.
