Eagles fans have been asking me for months: ” Who are the Eagles going to take at 20?” ” Are they going to trade up for Mariota?” “Are they going to address WR of CB/S?” Well I’ll give you an example of who I would target if the board plays out the way it’s has when I’ve done 7 round, 32 team mock drafts.
Round 1, 20th Overall: CB/FS Byron Jones 6’1 200 lbs rSr. UConn (#33 on the Big Board) Grade: 2nd Round
The way the board played out in my mock draft, all of the WR’s with first round grades on my board are gone. The Eagles need serious help at CB/FS and Jones has experience playing both. He played his last two seasons at CB after starting at FS. Jones is big, strong, long, an elite athlete, but most important, can play football. His progression from 2013 to 2014 at CB was pretty impressive. If the Eagles plan to play him at FS, he can play there too.
Round 2, 52nd Overall: OG AJ Cann 6’3 313 lbs rSr. South Carolina (#42 on the Big Board) Grade: 2nd Round
The Eagles need help at G, Herremans is in Indy and Mathis is up there in age. Cann is an athletic player who shows the ability to climb to the 2nd level, getting his hat on LB’s, but he also plays with power at the point of attack as well. Rarely gets beat with power in pass protection, Cann just has a few things technically to work on. I think he could come in day one and start.
Round 3, 84th Overall: FS Adrian Amos 6’0 218 lbs Sr. Penn St. (#108 on the Big Board) Grade: 4th Round
The Eagles filled the CB spot in round 1 with the drafting of Jones, now they address the need at FS with Amos, a Penn State kid with good size, athleticism, and versatility. Amos has two years of experience at CB, which gives him value because of his ability to play man to man in the slot or on TE’s. He’s a decent tackler, willing to get his nose dirty in the run game and has experience blitzing from the slot. He has limited reps as a CF, but he has the speed, agility, and range to play it as a pro.
Round 4, 114th Overall: WR Tre McBride 6’0 210 lbs Sr. William & Mary (#94 on the Big Board) Grade: 4th Round
Tre McBride is a small school prospect, with big time talent. He opened up scouts eyes with his performance during Shrine Game week, then showed up to the combine and ran a 4.41 40. He’s a polished route runner, can play inside or outside, has strong hands and makes contested catches in traffic. He’s a former RB who also can return kicks.
Round 5, 145th Overall: WR Dezmin Lewis 6’4 214 lbs Sr. Central Arkansas (#156 on the Big Board) Grade: 5th Round
Lewis is a big, athletic, and talented WR Prospect who played in a spread system at C. Arkansas. He has a huge learning curve ahead of him, but he possesses the traits to be a solid 2-3 WR in the NFL. He really uses his big body well, is a confident and natural hands catcher. He just has to learn to run the entire route tree. Not a burner, but a guy who can be a good possession receiver and red zone target.
Round 5, 156th Overall: QB Chris Bonner 6’7 235 lbs Sr. CSU-Pueblo (#171 on the Big Board) Grade: 5th Round
Bonner is a little known prospect to the normal college football fan, but this kid has elite arm talent. Played in a pro style offense, took a lot of snaps from under center, but also operated out of the shotgun as well. Has really good movement in and out of the pocket, can throw it on the run, and threatens all three levels of the field with his arm. He’s a guy that trusts his talent too much at times, will make throws that he shouldn’t, but he’s worth a shot on day three in rounds 5-7.
Round 6, 196th Overall: EDGE Kyle Emanuel 6’3 255 lbs rSr. North Dakota St. (#206 on the Big Board) Grade: 6th Round
Emanuel was a standout at the FCS level, and he is a flat out pass rusher. You can never have too many guys that get after the QB. Some don’t like him because he has short arms, but on tape he just gets home. Had 19.5 sacks as a senior. Has violent, heavy hands, and is decent holding the edge vs the run. I wouldn’t be surprised if he turned into one of the league’s best special teams players prior to getting a chance to start.
Round 7, 237th Overall: G/T Robert Myers 6’5 326 lbs Sr. Tenn St. (#222 on the Big Board) Grade: 6th Round
Played T in college, but projects inside to G, has really good size, heavy hands and strength. Moves guys in the run game. Needs time to make the adjustment to guard, get in better shape and learn technique. Got away with playing high and with bad hand placement because he was just stronger then his opposition.
